Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my insurance?

Our office does not take insurance as payment. I am out of network with all commercial insurance plans. Being in-network with insurance means less time with patients, and most plans do not cover integrative/functional services. The overhead expense and administrative time required to file claims, contest rejected claims, and comply with metrics reporting requirements are not feasible for the scale of my practice. We will provide superbills upon request, which you can submit to your insurance plan in order to use out-of-network benefits for possible reimbursement. The membership fee may be eligible for HSA or FSA funds, but you should check with your plan to ensure this is an option for you.

How is a membership with Baxley Family Medicine different from a concierge medical practice?

Most concierge practices charge a membership fee and bill to your insurance. I am not in network with any commercial insurance plans.

Many concierge practices offer 24/7 access for routine matters. I pride myself on responding promptly to my patients' questions in a personalized and thoughtful way and will strive to provide reliable access when it matters most. Nevertheless, I cannot provide 24/7 access for non-emergencies.

Some concierge practices may guarantee expedited appointments with a network of specialists. My practice will continue to guide referrals and coordinate care with excellent specialists affiliated with Endeavor Health, Northwestern, and Advocate. I will always advocate for you, but cannot guarantee expedited appointments.

Will you still use functional labs in your practice?

I will continue to incorporate a functional medicine perspective into my approach to care. The functional framework uses a systems biology approach to interpret symptoms and develop lifestyle-based treatment strategies.

When appropriate, I may recommend functional laboratory testing as part of this approach.

Functional lab interpretation and associated care are available to patients enrolled in Functional Medicine Support and the Premium Primary Care Membership. Because interpreting functional tests, incorporating results into individualized treatment plans, and providing ongoing guidance require additional time beyond standard primary care, these services are not included in the Basic Primary Care Membership.

For patients in the Basic Membership, there is an additional fee of $200 per test, to cover interpretation and associated care.

What if I have Medicare or other government-sponsored insurance?

Because government insurance programs have specific rules about private payment arrangements, Dr. Baxley is unable to enroll patients who have Medicare or other government-sponsored plans into her primary care membership. For Dr. Baxley's current patients who are Medicare beneficiaries, we have a separate model, but are not enrolling new patients at this time. Please contact us for more information.

Are routine labs included in the membership?

One set of routine annual labs is included for patients ages 26 and older who are in the basic and premium primary care memberships.
