Meet Dr. Baxley

Dr. Frances Baxley
Frances Baxley, MD

I am a family physician with dual board certification in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine, and I have a passion for helping patients of all ages manage complex medical conditions. I earned my medical degree from Harvard University in 2005 and completed a residency in Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, from 2005 to 2008. I remained at UCSF as a Chief Resident from 2008 to 2009.

After residency, I moved to Crownpoint, New Mexico, where I worked for three years with the Indian Health Service on the Navajo Nation. In 2012, I moved to Illinois to be close to my husband's family and worked briefly in a primary care role for NorthShore University HealthSystem from 2012 to 2014 before joining the medical staff of Erie Family Health in 2015.

Erie is a Federally Qualified Health Center that operates 13 clinics throughout Chicagoland, serving a largely uninsured and underinsured population. I became the Medical Director of Erie's first clinic in Lake County, the Erie HealthReach Waukegan Health Center. While at Erie Waukegan, I served as faculty for the Family Medicine Residency at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, supervising residents during their outpatient clinics and overseeing their community medicine curriculum.

My interest in integrative and functional medicine was inspired by a growing awareness that my training in Western medicine had not fully prepared me to guide patients in the effective use of evidence-based lifestyle interventions. I became certified in Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine in 2019 and completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona from 2022 to 2024.

I worked for the Division of Integrative Medicine within the Endeavor Health system from 2021 to 2024 before opening my private practice in the fall of 2024.

I am fascinated by finding simple truths in complexity, by how individual narrative shapes the varied ways people encounter health problems, and by the possibility of relieving suffering through positive connection. I am the mother of two amazing teenage boys. I enjoy spending time with my husband and sons, gardening, reading, and traveling to Alabama to see family.
